Study for the major exam on the Civil War. You may use notes and the photocopied handouts I gave you.

You will receive a magazine for Life Awareness to read on the weekend, and some of you still haven't turned in the "parent chat" about drugs. That's a "zero" in the gradebook, so you might want to get that done.

1. Study like crazy for the test on Thursday. Remember, prepare for at least two of the essay questions; only three of the choices will appear on the test.

2. Read about the end of the Civil War and Lincoln's assassination, pp. 133-149. Take just one set of notes for the reading.

Read the primary source on Sherman's March in Eyewitnesses (photocopy, included with Gettysburg address). Answer all three questions. Also, continue to review and plan for your open-note test on Thursday.

1. Organize a CIVIL WAR NOTEBOOK. It can be a section in your binder or a separate notebook. Put the notes we took today into the beginning of that notebook and bring it to class with you everyday.

2. Read WAR, TERRIBLE WAR (Henceforth, WTW), pp. 5-13. For these pages, and all subsequent assignments, do the following:

First, make three post-its for each chapter (or section in AMERICAN JOURNEY). They could be questions, comments, or pointing out of a good quote or idea.

Second, copy out in your notebook a good quotation (and the source), preferably a primary source or another historian. You can use excerpts by placing ellipses in the passages.

Third, write a title for your chapter. In a complete sentence, write the MAIN IDEA for the chapter. Finally, write three details.

NOTE: If you haven't already done so, turn in your photo permission slip for the Newcomers film.
