Please revise Chapter One of your research paper according to what you have learned about research methods. Be sure to look at all of the feedback you received on your papers.

Also, read pp. 25-39 in the packet.

If you still need to do more research, please finish it by Monday.

Homework for Fri., 4/21 (Due Mon.)

1. Continue with your research. If you were asked to revise or complete something from a prior dealine, be sure to do it before you get behind.
2. Take notes for CH. 3.
ALL RESEARCH MUST BE COMPLETED BY TUESDAY, APRIL 25.
3. Also, you are to read pp. 24-19 in the packet for HW Monday, but you may do it this weekend. I will be disucssing the "how to write it" part of the project on Monday.

Take notes on Chapter Three. All research must be finished for the report by Tuesday, April 24. If you need to take more notes for Chapter Two, you should do so.

Goal = 50 or more cards, organized (+ 10 for Crossing the BLVD) according to your outline.

1. Do any late work you have (25 notecards? bibliography?).
2. Create a working outline for your paper. Type it up.
3. Write a research question for your paper (see p. 21).
4. Organize your notecards with dividers that correspond to your outline.
5. Get started on your Ch. 3 notes, or take more notes if you need them for Ch. 2.

2. Type up a working bibliography in alphabetical order. Use pp. 15-17 in your packet for guidance. You may add to it as you become more familiar with your sources.

Homework for Mon., 4/10 (Due Wed.)

TONIGHT: WORK ON YOUR NOTECARDS FOR AND THE ROUGH DRAFT OF YOUR FEATURE STORY (CH. 1), DUE WEDNESDAY.

Tomorrow, you’ll be going on an all-day adventure to the Lower East Side, an area of the city which has witnessed the greatest influx of immigrants in American history. Even today, the neighborhood reflects this history. While most of Little Italy has been replaced by Chinatown, and while many immigrants have moved on, there are layers of the past waiting to be unpeeled, and we’re going to do it together.

SCHEDULE:
8:30-9:00 Orientation and Instructions, Gr. 8 Room
9:00-10:00 Subway to Delancey Street, Brief Neighborhood Tour with Ms. Allen
10:00 Tenement Museum (divided into two groups)
11:30 Walking Tour with Ms. Allen – Includes Neighborhood Snacks
12:30 Golden Unicorn Restaurant – Dim Sum Lunch

1:30 Walking Tour, Part II
2:45 Return to St. Luke’s School, Check Out Books for Project

WHAT TO BRING
Very comfortable walking shoes
Flexible wardrobe – it’s likely to be chilly in the morning and warm by afternoon (from 40s-60s) – bring a jacket
Sunscreen and/or hat
About $10 for dim sum (let me know privately if that’s a problem)

YOUR RESEARCH PROJECT
Please review the research paper packet from pp. 1-20. Be knowledgeable about expectations. Be prepared for any pop quizzes on the horizon.
DUE TOMORROW: 5 BIB CARDS FOR BASE TEXTS.
DUE WED: Feature story with 10 notecards.
DUE THUR: Typed bibliography with 10 sources so far.

Read over packet on research paper.
Get parent (and student) signature.
Get notecards (by M0nday).
Make five bib. cards from base texts (by Monday).
Make a "top ten" list for topics you'd like to compare for immigration research. Place a star by those countries that represent your background.

Homework for Tue., Apr. 4 (Due Wed.)

1. Continue to survey and read Crossing the Boulevard.
2. Find another article to read...look through and read with the goal of finding two stories to which you are really committed, as you will be writing a feature story comparing them for your research paper (Chapter One). It's better to find two stories that are very different. You could include post its in the book in preparation for note taking.
3. Optional: Bring $2 for Amnesty.
