Homework due Monday, 10/1

No homework (except makeup work) is due Friday, 9/28. We have CLASS PICTURES instead. Dress accordingly.

Due Monday:

1. Write your Community Service Goals and first Community Service Report. Make sure there is a complete paragraph for each activity. Incomplete reports will be returned.

2. Revise your paragraphs about Education and Inequality. Attach the SIGNED rough drafts to them.

3. Create an illustrated Bill of Rights. Do not write the complete text of the amendments -- give the main ideas. Use very neat graphics, color, and some sort of "icon" (pix) for each amendment. You will learn your Bill of Rights more effectively by working with them this way.

1. Finish the Scavenger Hunt sheet (4 pages) from the field trip, including the back.

1. Read over the Action Sheet and nuclear warhood action letter given to you in class today. Explore some of the websites before for me information.

2. Write a one-paragraph position statement about the use of nuclear weapons in the world today and what our government's policy should be. You may use ideas from the Angelus Bell Follow Up sheet.

3. Turn in the paragraph with the follow up sheet tomorrow.

4. If you would like pizza for the Amnesty meeting on Wednesday at lunch, bring $2.

Homework due Monday, 9/10

1. Study for a mini-quiz on Monday on the U.N. Millennium Development Goals. Review by going to this site: http://cyberschoolbus.un.org/mdgs/index.asp.

2. Based on the film clips about Nanavi (Benin) and Ken (Japan) you saw in class, write a thoughtful paragraph about INEQUALITY AND EDUCATION IN THE WORLD. Make it a reflective paragraph up to 8th grade standards with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Use specific examples from the Wide Angle shows (go to the website at: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/wideangle/shows/school2/index.html). If you were absent, you may view the clips online.

3. Using the half sheet with Amnesty and Human Rights Day dates, plug them into your planner for each day. Store the sheet in your planner.

4. Read over the course description (yellow sheet, also included here below yesterday's assignment). Sign it where appropriate, share it with a parent, and ask him/her to sign it where indicated (not at the top). We will discuss it in class on Monday.

1. A nice, thoughtfully written letter to your Newcomers buddy with lots of personal information and a welcoming attitude (typed or handwritten, no envelope).
2. A good draft of your bio-poem.
3. One or more pictures of you (include one which shows what you really look like).
All of this material will be mailed to Newcomers high school on Friday afternoon for matching to a buddy.
