COMMUNITY SERVICE REPORT DUE FOR ANY SERVICE YOU'VE DONE SINCE THE WINTER BREAK. IT'S OK IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE EXACT DATES OR NUMBERS OF HOURS. JUST WRITE ABOUT WHAT YOU'VE DONE.

Read the new text Civil Rights Movement (CRM), pp. 5-33. Answer only the questions on the worksheet given to you. It is also posted on the St. Luke's website on the Social Studies 8 class page.

Homework due Thursday, 2/28

No class or homework due Wednesday (Ms. Allen on trip).

Create a memorial FOR the victims of lynching
or
A monument TO the activists who fought against it.
This monument may be about individual victims or activists, or about the whole groups.

Materials and Medium:
Song lyrics, song, sculpture, poster, illustration, poetry, poetry with illustration, photos and names, symbolic image, memorial “action” (day of remembrance, day of action), a memorial campaign, a new institution (library, museum, school, etc.), and so on.

Do not depict any dead or abused bodies -- work on developed a more sophisticated level of symbolism.

Think beyond a poster, although your creation may be a tangible object. It could very well be an idea sketched out but not built/created yet. Take enough time to be thoughtful and show your creativity.

DUE: THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 28. You will explain it to the class in a full group on Tuesday. Your monument/memorial should have the SUBJECT of the piece written on it and your name, but otherwise, the form of your creation is up to you.
