Some of you are behind on post-its and organization, or really need to get to work. It's your job to catch yourself up.

Also, if you are walking, sign and fill out all forms for the AIDS WALK, and register online/design web page. This must be done by Monday to get a t-shirt.

BRING PERMISSION SLIPS!

Apr 13, 2010

HW due Wed., 4/14

Make a "working bibliography" of sources you have either used or acquired so far for your immigration research project.

Type up the bibliography; you'll add to it as your project progresses.

Use "Bib Me" online as a tool to do this perfectly.

Note that some of these sources are 1) a book with one author, 2) a book with two or three authors, 3) a book with an editor, 4) websites, and 5) personal interviews.

You could also use the Tenement Museum website. It can be the source for any of the note cards from the walking tour and the tenement tour. The site itself also has good information.

Sources Collected:
1. AMERICAN JOURNEY
2. DO PEOPLE GROW ON FAMILY TREES?
3. CROSSING THE BLVD
4. VOICES OF AMERICA
5. Websites: CROSSING THE BLV, www.tenement.org
6. Personal interview(s) with buddy(ies)

Apr 12, 2010

HW due Tue., 4/13

BRING THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT BOOK TO CLASS. WE WILL CHECK IT IN.

Homework due Tuesday:

Read in the new book, Voices of America: The Immigrant Experience (ed. Jean Liccione -- she would be the author/editor if you were quoting this book), pp. 5-10.

The worksheet you were given explains the assignment: 1) answer the questions on p. 10 (four of them), and 2) fill in the worksheet.

IF YOU WERE ABSENT AND DON'T HAVE THE BOOKS, YOU'LL MAKE IT UP THIS WEEK. YOU'LL ALSO NEED TO GET THE READINGS ON RACE AND THE "POP QUIZ" FROM CLASS TODAY -- YOUR CLASSMATES CAN EXPLAIN.

Apr 7, 2010

HW due Thu., 4/8, and Mon., 4/12

Due Thu., 4/8

Write a one-page reflection about "white privilege" based on our discussion in class, the McInotosh reading, the incident on our field trip, and the things you said or kept private. Include at least three quotes from the article.

Handwritten or typed is fine. Make it serious and thoughtful, and ready to turn in at 10:45 so I can read it by our 1:00 class with Mr. McWhorter.

Here are the links to the two websites (sorting people into race, and the strange film, "Vision Test") we saw in class):

Due Monday, 4/12:

Write Chapter One of your Immigration Paper (rough draft of course).

I suggest that you have a paragraph about 1) immigration in general (maybe two paragraphs), 2) another one or two about Queens, 3) another one or two paragraphs about your buddy, and 4) one or two paragraphs about your Crossing the Boulevard character.

I will give you back the book tomorrow. You can use it for info. about the CTB character, and also for info. about immigration in general and Queens. You do not have to turn in any note cards, but you should use your interview booklet.
