1. Write a letter to your buddy or buddies.
2. Find your CROSSING THE BOULEVARD book.
3. Choose one story in the book that really interests you. Read it carefully. This will be the story you'll be writing about for Chapter One of your research paper.
4. Make a least five post-it notes in the book, where you highlight a good quote or a set of facts that could be included in your story.
You will make five more tomorrow. Include some post it notes about QUEENS as well. You have to write about this borough as a haven for new immigrants as well.
You will also have to write find five post its in your interview booklet about your buddy tomorrow. This is to do ahead.
DUE THURSDAY, 2/3:
Read the article about Egypt, watch the news/internet video tonight (not tomorrow) about the massive planned protests, and write the reflections as assigned. Do that tonight (Wednesday). We will discuss it in our next social studies class.
Then, continue planning for the writing of your Chapter One.
1. Make FIVE MORE POST ITS in Crossing the Boulevard. Make sure some of them include information from the first part of the book with factual information about the borough of Queens.
2. Make TEN POST ITS in your interview booklets from the Newcomers day. Find interesting facts or quotes you could use in your chapter.
3. Write the opening paragraph of your chapter. How do you think you would start it? With a catchy story about a buddy? About one of the characters from CTB? Some descriptive passages about the people who pass through Queens?
Remember, the chapter has three ingredients:
QUEENS + BUDDY STORIES + CTB STORY
