Also, think about your Ch. 3 research topics. Rank them #1-5, starring the topics that are in your own background. Give them to me at the beginning of homeroom on Monday.

ONLY FOUR STUDENTS TURNED THEIR WORK INTO THE BIBLIOGRAPHY DROP BOX ON TIME TODAY. IT IS WORKING FINE, AND THESE STUDENTS HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED FEEDBACK AS COMMENTS ON THEIR ACCOUNTS.

Therefore, the rest of the bibliographies are late. They should have been done by the end of the school day. Don't make them later -- get them in.

You should also check out a library book or a classroom book so you have a good set of materials for note-taking.

Work on a skeleton outline for Ch. 2 and 3 of the immigration research paper. You will have class time to work on it as well. You will turn them into the drop box.

Build it from the project handout. You can also have one-on-one help from me.

This will guide you in your note card process.

It doesn't make sense to take notes without knowing the pathway.

HW due Wed.,, 2/16 (also included is H.W. for Tue., 2/15)

Create a working bibliography of 10 or more general books or websites on immigration. This needs to be done by the end of the day tomorrow and should be submitted to the drop box. You will have a full class period (no reading from the NY Times!).You will add to it as you collect more materials for taking notes. Each time you want to use a new book, you'll want to add it to this bibliography. For now, you can use the basic texts, books from the library, and classroom books.

 YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO USE CLASS TIME FOR THE BIBLIOGRAPHY IF YOU HAVE NOT SOLVED YOUR TECHNICAL PROBLEMS FOR THE CONSTITUTION PROJECT YET-- YOU MUST GET THEM SOLVED IN SCHOOL TOMORROW.

Once you have submitted your citations to the drop box, you may check out one library book or one classroom book on general immigration, so you will have five books in your possession, in addition to websites, for taking notes on Chapter Two.

You should put these in your bibliography:
1) Crossing the Boulevard, 2) The American Journey, 3) Do People Grow on Family Trees, 4) Voices of America, and 5) the book you check out. You could also add the article from Teaching Tolerance magazine.

If you have any problems with your Constitution Website, including uploading the project to the site, you must see Ms. Allen about it one-on-one (filling out a card is not enough). The project isn't complete if it's not on the website. However, you will get an extension if the problem is due to technical problems beyond your control. If it's because you didn't bother to upload it, you should do it IMMEDIATELY!

1. Log in and create a new log in and password at Noodle Tools. Make sure it's one that you can remember.
2. Click the User Guide (below) and flip through it, scanning the highlighted or underlined material.
3. On your "Dashboard," add a project (name your immigration project).
4. Add all the deadlines in your "to do" list.
 This way, you'll know all the deadlines in the project and when the final project is due.

Explore the St. Luke's library website and its capabilities by logging on and creating lists.

Find a total of 10 books and websites, combining them in an alphabetical citation list (a simple bibliography without annotations or call numbers).

You can also add in class books by using Bib Me as your digital bibliography maker.

You will have the be "The Alphabetizer" when you put all these sources together.

You are also the "Final Editor." Many of the citations make errors on capitalization of titles. Make sure the titles are correctly capitalized, like you learned when you were in elementary school.

Don't waste time by listing any old books/websites!
 Choose good GENERAL books so you are already beginning to find useful resources for the project. Do not look for a specific topic since you don't know what your specific topic will be yet.

Share the Egypt article with a parent and be sure to get your Constitution rough draft signed.

Work on your Constitution project. Be able to tell me what you did for at least 30 minutes. Work on research, writing, editing, website design, script revisions, etc. Make sure all your website pages have substantial information on them. There is plenty to do.

Work periods: Tue., Thu.., and Fri.
Project is due: Monday, 2/14.

FINISH CHAPTER ONE

Citing Sources in the Text of Your Manuscript or Paper

MLA recommends "parenthetical documentation" of sources, whereby a cited author and specific page numbers are noted in parentheses in the text of your paper or manuscript, e.g., (Fairbanks 32) or (Rubenstein 101-102).
Such citations refer to an alphabetically arranged list of works cited, which is properly placed at the end of your paper (i.e., your bibliography).
That means a book by Fairbanks or Rubenstein is in your bibliography, and the quote (or paraphrase/stats) can be found on pages 32 (or 101-102).
If the source you are citing is a quotation within a book, but the person didn’t write the book him or herself (like the Crossing the Boulevard characters), then mention him or her in the text, and say “Quoted in” before the name of the author in parentheses.
Example: Lana talked about her hardships in Viet Nam. She said: “I never had a chance to be free until I came to America” (Quoted in Lehrer and Sloan 57).
            That means that Lana said it, but she was quoted in Crossing the Boulevard, which was written by Judith Lehrer and Warren Sloan. You can find their book in your bibliography. The quote is on p. 57.
If it’s your buddy, and there’s no page number and you are mentioning your buddy in the text as the person saying something (YOU SHOULD QUOTE YOUR BUDDY), then you don’t have to use parentheses, but your interview will be in the bibliography.
If it’s a website and there are no page numbers, you will still mention the website title but no page numbers.

Edit your introductions and make sure they are saved with your buddy's name in the folder on the network (corrected). Turn in a printed copy.
